About 4 years ago Chris and I had visited some friends of ours that live in IL. They had just had their first child, a little cutie who I refer to as my “boyfriend.” Why you ask? Well, this kid was a flirt the moment the cord was cut. We were still in the stage of not making it a habit of discussing our infertility openly. The beauty of wine, and friends who you can trust is that after a glass of wine … ah, maybe a few glasses … OK OK OK already, a whole freaking bottle later, I let the elephant out of the womb per say. She was very sweet about it. Without second thought she darted up her stairs and ran down with a book in her hand. It was “The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy.” She said a friend had given it to her when she became pregnant and really told the nitty gritty details from well, a girlfriend’s perspective. She vouched it was one of the best books she had read throughout her pregnancy. This dear friend wanted me to have it because she knew in her hopeful mind I would be pregnant soon and would also find it as helpful as it was for her.
Fast forward about 300 negative pregnancy tests later to now. Since that day I have bought the same book for 4 different friends of mine who were expecting. I never once opened that book and because I have a uterus that still baffles all of the science community, this book will sit on my book shelf and will never be read, by me at least. Hmm… perhaps I will scope out Facebook and just scroll my feeds for the next blindsiding announcement and donate the book to that lucky couple who sneezed and got pregnant. I digress. Although this was a great gift and was given with such optimistic enthusiasm, Damn, I wish I would have had something that would have prepared us for the path that laid before us. It would have been nice to have a nitty gritty, guide on how to survive this IF calamity. I certainly was not prepared for the twists and turns that would be uprooting us and taking us by surprise. I needed a book that was specifically catered for and from those who know the struggle of infertility. Recently, it was like the clouds had parted and answered the call. With much hard work was born an amazing collection of e-books perfectly titled “A Girlfriend’s Survival Guide to Simplifying Infertility.”
